She's still chasing them. That experience was very much at the front of my mind when we started getting quotes for our own new slate tiled roof this spring, which is probably why I was so thorough in my vetting process before we settled on Proven Roofing. What they actually did for us: full removal of the old felt-and-tile roof, new breathable membrane laid down, natural slate fitted throughout, ridge tiling repointed and secured properly, and all the flashing around the chimney stack replaced while they were up there. Mike walked me through everything at the initial survey stage, which I appreciated — I had a list of questions and he didn't make me feel like I was being difficult for asking them. 😊 The crew were with us for the better part of four days. I work from home and we have a dog who is not exactly calm around strangers, and I was bracing myself for chaos. Honestly, it was fine. They were considerate about coming and going, they let me know each morning roughly where they'd be working so I could keep the dog settled away from that side of the house, and the clean-up each evening was proper — no slates or debris left scattered on the driveway overnight. My daughter was home for part of it too (she's seven and fascinated by anything happening on the roof) and the lads were good-humoured about her questions without it ever feeling like it was slowing them down. The finished roof looks genuinely well. The slates are laid evenly, the ridge line is straight, and the lead flashing around the chimney is neat in a way that the old work definitely was not. My husband went up into the attic after they finished and said the membrane was laid clean with no bunching or gaps — he knows enough to check these things and he was satisfied. In terms of cost, the quote came in mid-range compared to the three we got. Not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either, and given what I'd watched my neighbour go through, I wasn't going to make price the deciding factor. The final invoice matched the quote exactly, which should be standard but apparently isn't always. The one thing that stopped me giving five stars: the start date slipped by three days without a great deal of proactive communication from their end. I had to chase to get an updated timeline, and while they were apologetic when I did, I'd have preferred they reached out to me first. It's a small thing and it didn't affect the quality of the work at all, but it's worth mentioning. 🏠 Overall, compared to what I've seen go wrong elsewhere, Proven Roofing did a thorough, tidy, profesional job and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again for anything else that comes up.
